FANTASTIC MEN’S TEAM VICTORY AT CROFT
After our dismal showing in the first race at Fforest Fields only 3 weeks before, it was really uplifting to record a men’s team victory at Croft and to see so many new recruits performing so well. And this was in a record field (129) for the League and where there was keen competition. But let me first welcome and congratulate our debutants, all of whom put in excellent performances. Sam Goodchild was our 5th man home in 25th with young Ross Cameron next, not far back in 42nd for 1st Junior Man. In 47th, making his third debut, I estimate, for Couriers was the old warhorse Richie Richards easing himself through for 8th Courier just in front of Paul Workman who had a very solid run in 49th with our fifth new man, Shawn Curtis taking a gutsy 114th place with a good chunk of the field behind him. FIVE new male Couriers in one race and one new female, Emily Curtis, coming home an impressive 48th out of 80 (another League Record) in the women’s race, I don’t think that’s happened before! Well done, all!
The scoring 4 in the men’s event were led home by Eliot who had recorded a fine 10K PB of 33.14 in the previous week’s Leeds Abbey Dash. Here he had another great run taking a tremendous 3rd spot behind Tim Davies and Jonny Pugh with Charlie racing strongly for 7th, beating Matt in 9th for the first time over the country. But what an effort to have 3 in the top 10 in such a classy field! And talking of class, our 4th scorer was inevitably Russ who took a fine 14th spot and 1st M50. In all we had 13 men featuring, Mike getting the better of Richie in 46th, Dave coming back from illness in 58th, Steve 61st (2nd V65) and Kev a stonking 93rd.
Sadly, we again failed to put out a women’s team but it was good to see Amy keeping Emily company and impressing in a strong 13th place, inevitably making her dad wonder why he wasn’t running too.
Let’s hope in the next race there will be a women’s team and that the men continue to climb the League improving on the 5th spot we’re now in.
