SWEET-TOOTHED COURIERS LICK THE SUGARLOAF 27/10/12

Results of this five and a half mile fell race [counter in Winter Series] have still not been published but there was an admirable turn-out of Couriers and some good performances on a cold bright day when ice was to be found on the summit.

Mike Link led the team home in around 10th closely followed by Neil, with Max next, returning to the mountains after playing on his bike, just missing out on 1st V50.

There was a strong V60 field and as usual, Steve H was required by his leader, Steve L, to take the pace up the hill into the wind so that the latter could practise his drafting skills, until, once in sight of the top, which provided its own wind-break, the main man could skip away, looking every inch the wing threequarter he once was, going on to register the win by the best part of a minute, with the other V60s further back.

Rich Wall is in transition, looking to recover his fell fitness but he did enough to stay ahead of Kev and Clive, who was also dipping his big toe into race water for the first time after a longish period out with a succession of injuries.

“See you at the Blorenge”, said Steve, as they left the pub.

” No, see you at Croft.” said Steve.
